Although this book states it is for the mark ll focus stacking was first added in firmware 4 for the Olympus omd em1 and is useful for those with that body as wellThe book is brief and to the point and makes it easy to get started with it. I prefer it over focus bracketing as I don't have to bring it in to photoshop to create the image. The only limitation is it's a jpeg, however the Olympus jpeg produced is excellent.
I highly reccomend putting the book on your pad or smart phone and setting up on a flower or similar and experimenting using the book as a guide to help you learn the method

Helpful and very clear instructions for using this remarkable function of the Olympus OM-D EM-1 Mark 2. 3 more words
Don't waste your money. This 3 page book tells very little more than is in the manual. There is only one example of using this function, and no guidance on the settings to use for different shooting situations.
Terrific explanation of the new Focus Stacking feature in the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II. Can't wait for the complete book on the camera from Darrell.
Lots of detail that I first learned from this book. It is this detail that gives a much more complete understanding of how to correctly set up and use this capability of my camera. Awesome.
Like other publications written by Mr. Young, material is extremely well written and easy to read. In absence of any sort of feature details from Olympus camera manuals, this e-booklet covers a rather technical subject in very easy to understand.
I do want to note however that the first O-MD E-M1 body also supports focus stacking. Only a handful of Olympus lens are capable of automated focus slices, including the 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO, the 300 f/2.8 PRO, the 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO, and the 60mm f/2.8 Macro - and not the new 12-100 f/4 PRO lens.
I can't wait until August when Mr. Young's detailed, 500+ page long "Mastering the Olympus O-MD E-M1 Mark II" book is available.
I've owned the E-M1 Mark II since December 2016 and have taken many stacked images with varying degrees of success. What I find most valuable in Darrell's explanation is the pattern of movement of the focus plane. That in itself should increase my hit rate. However, I was hoping for a little more depth and examples. For instance, what would happen if the camera is moved closer or farther from the subject while maintaining the same settings? How about a subject much smaller than a lens cap? How about stacking to increase DOF for landscapes? Granted, that's probably not what focus stacking is for but who wouldn't like to have that edge?
I like Darrell's work and I pre-ordered his upcoming book. I just hope the chapter on focus stacking goes into greater detail.
